School Counselor - Chaminade-Madonna College Preparatory


  • The candidate will work to implement the support function for students and parents as it relates to academic, personal, and post-secondary educational planning
  • Coordinate the guidance services of the school with the guidance counseling staff for grades 9-12 for the purpose of positive changes in the areas of academics, social/emotional needs, and college exploration
  • Provide academic counseling to students based on student/parent/teacher request; a review of student performance on quarter reports and report cards; or students who have been placed on academic probation
  • Provide, on a limited basis, personal/social counseling to students with identified needs
  • Maintain records on individual students by documenting counseling sessions and relevant interactions with teachers and/or parents
  • Maintain regular contact with teachers, staff, administration, and parents regarding the academic, social, and emotional needs of students as needed including students with learning exceptionalities
  • Refer students for academic/psychological testing and/or personal and family counseling to other approved professional sources in the community, if needed
  • Set-up, conduct, and follow-up on parent conferences in a timely manner
  • Participate in the scheduling of students with teacher, student and parent input, the course requests for the next school year, for each student; assisting in resolving conflicts in student schedule, and initiating appropriate schedule changes
  • Meets with assigned students two (2) times per year
  • Coordinates the standardized testing program for grades 9-12, including PSATs for students in grades 9-11 and AP Exams for all grade levels
  • Assist in the selection of students for special programs and projects
  • Proctors Advanced Placement testing as assigned by the Director of School Counseling
  • Provides information to students and parents regarding the college application process/summer programs/scholarship opportunities for grades 9-11
  • Collaborates and assists with scheduling of midterms, finals, and makeup exams
  • Collaborates with the College Counseling Counselor and Director of Curriculum in identifying trends/data for implementation of courses/programs
  • Participates in networking/activities/professional development in support of the operations of the school and school counseling department
  • Perform other duties as assigned
