College Counselor - Carrollton School of the Sacred Heart

College counseling works in partnership with Carrollton’s team of college counselors, academic advisors, social-emotional counselor, Upper School Head, and other members of Carrollton’s Academic Team. Led by the Director of College Counseling, college counselors provide ongoing support and communication with both families and college admissions offices. Carrollton’s college counselors are uniquely positioned to facilitate the success of Carrollton’s current and future academic growth. Essential duties and responsibilities: The duties and responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:
A commitment to the Goals and Criteria of Sacred Heart Network Schools as articulated in the school mission.
Demonstrating a keen understanding of the complexities of today’s college admissions process
Advising and supporting students and parents about the college counseling process at Carrollton, including reviewing and submitting college applications.
Collaborating with other college counselors, teachers, administrators, and parents to support student needs.
Working in collaboration with academic advisors and social-emotional counselors to establish a comprehensive counseling program for the school.
Providing strategies, support, and guidance to students and their families throughout the application process and making the best individualized college list and final choice.
Meeting with students and families individually and in groups to educate them on admissions trends, the wide array of college options, and navigating the college process.
Writing a comprehensive, individualized letter of recommendation for each assigned student in the senior class and advocating for students with the colleges.
Coordinating the distribution and review of teacher recommendations.
Hosting college representatives on campus and sharing information on students and Carrollton.
Maintaining records and statistical information on students for the school profile, end-of-year reports, and feedback to faculty.
Gathering information and writing articles for parents regarding news and events in college counseling.
Assisting with the planning, organizing, and supervision of parent education programming.
Supporting the communications and marketing teams in efforts including social media management, content creation, website maintenance, building partnerships, etc.
Utilizing cognitive science and educational research to inform teaching practices when creating group presentations and workshops in building a resume, writing college application essays, etc.
Participating in reflective, self-directed, ongoing professional development that may include college visits, college counseling workshops, and attending college presentations.
Assisting students in identifying sources for scholarships and financial aid.
Completing administrative tasks that include scheduling college representative visits to Carrollton, sending application documents, inputting all necessary information for the Florida Bright Futures, completing scholarship recommendations, providing information to NCAA for student-athletes, and planning signing events.
Applying for and submitting appeals for accommodation requests to ACT.
Providing career counseling, assisting with Career Day, and supporting the Mentoring and Internship Programs
Assisting in course selections for rising seniors.
Administering standardized testing and various assessments.
Coordinating and staffing college admission boot camps on campus.
Helping plan and attend the AIMS College Fair, evening programs in college counseling, or related academic orientations.
Becoming familiar with summer opportunities, programs, and other ways for students to build a strong resume.
Traveling to colleges and universities to tour campuses, investigate programs, and liaison with admissions offices.
Engaging in professional organizations such as NACAC, SACAC, and ACCIS.
Participating in faculty meetings, liturgies, chapels, retreats, school assemblies, and special events such as, but not limited to, back-to-school night, admission showcases, and graduation.
Performing other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
A Bachelor's degree is required, an advanced degree is preferred
Three to five years of relevant experience at an independent secondary school or selective college admissions office, with preference given to college admission
Experience with multiple curricular pathways
Commitment to ongoing professional growth
Enthusiasm for supporting students of all abilities
Strong communication skills
Demonstrated success with effective use of technology: Naviance, Blackbaud, etc.
