Employment Opportunity:

The Academy of the Holy Names seeks a High School College Counselor for the 2024-2025 school year. This is a full-time, 10-month-plus position commencing in January 2025. The College Counselor reports to the Director of College Counseling and the High School Principal and is an integral part of an 8-person team offering a comprehensive program that includes academic support, social-emotional counseling, and career and college counseling to students in Grades 9-12.

Qualifications:
1. Bachelor’s degree and experience in college admissions and/or college counseling in an independent college-preparatory school.
2. Proficiency in MS Office, specifically Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and familiarity with using a student database for college admissions such as Slate, Naviance, Cialfo, and Maia Learning.
3. Excellent communication, writing, and public-speaking skills.
4. Availability to work evenings and weekends for special programming.
5. Ability to work collaboratively on a team with humility, patience, and a sense of humor.
6. Support the mission and goals of the Sisters of the Holy Names and the initiatives set forth by the AHN Board of Trustees.

Position Responsibilities:
1. Guide students and families as they move through the college research, application, and selection process.
2. Possess in-depth knowledge of U.S. colleges, as well as an understanding of the evolving college admissions landscape.
3. Write succinct, relevant, and compelling letters of recommendation for each student.
4. Build and foster strong relationships with college and scholarship representatives to best advocate for your students.
5. Lead on-campus programs and workshops for parents, students, and college admissions representatives.
6. Assist with the administration of standardized testing.
7. Counsel students on course selection in conjunction with planning for college.
8. Prepare and conduct workshops on applying to college, resume building, and writing compelling college essays.
9. Pursue ongoing professional development by attending conferences and college tours.
10. Demonstrate proven ability to multi-task, organize events, shift gears, make decisions quickly, and most importantly, have fun.
