Associate Director of College Guidance - Christ School

Christ School seeks an enthusiastic, highly qualified individual to serve as Associate Director of College Guidance. The ideal candidates will demonstrate a willingness to work as a collaborative team member, outstanding organizational and time-management skills, excellent written and oral communication skills, and the ability to work effectively with a diverse group of students, parents and guardians, faculty, and administrators. A bachelor's degree is required; a master's degree is preferred, with experience in selective college admissions or independent school college counseling for at least 2 years. Reporting to the Director of College Guidance, this is a 10-month full-time position to begin this summer, August 1, 2026.


Job duties include, but are not limited to the following:


  • Serve as the primary college counselor to approximately 25-30 students in both the junior and senior classes
  • Advise and support members of the senior and junior classes and their parents /guardians in all aspects of the college search and application process.
  • Write personal and comprehensive letters of recommendation that convey deep knowledge of the student and their academic and extracurricular involvement.
  • Actively contribute to the presentations and programs of Christ School’s College Guidance Office including some evening and weekend events.
  • Visit college campuses during the school year and summer.
  • Participate in the life of our boarding school during and after school hours, including Chapel, athletic, fine arts, community service events, and more.
  • Assist the Director of Testing with all standardized testing programs, including PSAT, SAT, ACT, AP, and practice SAT/ACT administrations.
  • Assist with college fair(s) when held on our campus every two to three years.
  • Attend and represent Christ School at professional conferences.

Founded in 1900 and located in Asheville, NC, Christ School is an all-boys (8th-12th grade) school affiliated with the Episcopal Church. Our 308 boys come from 15 states and 9 foreign countries. Also represented are members of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians and the Seminole Tribe of Florida. Historically, 70% of Christ School’s student body board and 30% commute from the local area as day students. Our international population is 7% while 20% are students of color.
