Associate Director of College Counseling - The Benjamin School

Summary of Position
 The Associate Director of College Counseling is a key member of a six-person team dedicated to guiding students and families through a thoughtful, student-centered college search and application process. The role includes direct student advising, collaboration with faculty and administrators, and engagement with college admission professionals, while supporting programs such as standardized testing, internships, and admissions-related workshops.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred

3–5 years of experience in college counseling and/or selective college admissions preferred

Strong writing, speaking, communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills

Broad knowledge of college admission processes, academic programs, and financial aid

Understanding of adolescent development and student well-being

Experience with college counseling platforms (e.g., Slate, SCOIR, Naviance, MaiaLearning, College Kickstart) preferred

Essential Responsibilities

Project a warm personality with  positive energy and a sincere desire to connect and work closely with students 

Advise students and families through all phases of the college search, application, and decision-making process

Build strong, individualized relationships that support student growth, wellbeing, and diverse postsecondary goals

Provide academic advising related to course selection and college planning

Manage accurate and timely submission of admissions-related materials and adhere to strict deadlines

Maintain current knowledge of admission trends and higher education policies

Cultivate professional relationships with college admission representatives by visiting campuses, hosting representatives on campus, and attending conferences

Collaborate with colleagues to deliver workshops, programs, and annual program improvements

Coordinate standardized testing (SAT/ACT) and related logistics

Engage actively in the life of the school through events, committees, and student activities

Commit to ongoing professional learning and ethical college counseling practices
