Assistant Director of College Counseling - Tampa Prep
The Assistant Director of College Counseling exhibits initiative, dedication,
cooperation, and regard for confidentiality. The Assistant Director of College
Counseling performs all duties as assigned by the Director of College
Counseling and serves as an active member of the College Counseling
team.
Major Responsibilities
• Educating students and parents about colleges, the college
admissions process, trends, procedures, and testing; advising and
supporting approximately 30 -40 seniors, 30 - 40 juniors and families as
they go through the process; and helping students and families aspire
realistically and choose wisely.
• Meeting with sophomores, juniors and seniors, individually and in
groups, to talk about process and individual college choices.
• The College Counselor also advises 10th and 11th grade students on
curricular choices and the 9th grade students as needed.
• Meeting with college admissions representatives who visit our campus
and facilitating meetings between college representatives and our
students.
• The College Counselor also serves as a liaison with college admissions
offices throughout the year.
• Writing an official school recommendation for each senior. To do so,
the Counselor gathers information from parents, teachers, school
records, and students themselves. The College Counselor also
completes all School Report and mid-year report forms requested by
colleges, including evaluations of Students.
• Sending initial, mid-years, and final transcripts electronically or via mail
to colleges for students on your charge, following up with the status of
these transcripts, and sending supporting documents when required.
• Maintaining and sharing information on colleges,
college guides, scholarships, financial aid, and
paying for college.
• Making informational presentations to parents and
students.
• Being aware of issues and trends in college
admission, higher education, testing, as well as
keeping up-to-date about specific colleges
and maintaining membership in professional
organizations: the College Board, the National
Association, College Admission Counselors, the
Southern Association of College Admission
Counselors, the Association of College Counselors
at Independent Schools.
• Maintaining and disseminating information about
standardized tests such as SAT, ACT and AP.
• Professional development that includes
college visits and travel to regional and national
Required skills & Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree is required. Master’s Degree preferred.
• A minimum of five years of experience in college admissions
and/or high school college
• counseling is required.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Comfort with learning new technology.
• Strong organizational ability and the ability to meet
deadlines.
Physical Demands
• Mobility sufficient to move about the campus, to include
climbing stairs.
• Sight and hearing adequate to perform the duties of the
job, ability to communicate clearly.
• Ability to lift and carry up to 20 pounds on an infrequent
basis.
