Voices In Action Highlights and More!
We would like to take the time to highlight the important work our Government Relations committee has done with their Voices in Action initiatives. SACAC Voices in Action (VIA) showcases advocacy efforts across SACAC’s nine member states, empowering counselors, admissions professionals, and educators to engage meaningfully in state and federal policy discussions. In case you missed it, here are the highlights from each VIA initiative held within the region:
State-Level Highlights
- Alabama & Arkansas: Focused on identifying member priorities, effective advocacy strategies, bipartisan collaboration, and the impact of state legislation on education.
- Florida & North Carolina: Emphasized grassroots advocacy through hometown legislator engagement and efficient letter-writing campaigns.
- Georgia & Louisiana: Featured full legislative agendas and federal policy updates, including concerns over reduced student aid, equity-focused initiatives, and increased compliance requirements.
- Mississippi & Tennessee: Partnered with education and advocacy organizations to spotlight student-to-counselor ratios, immigrant and undocumented student challenges, and leadership development for underserved populations.
These efforts culminate in National Advocacy Day (March 16–17) in Washington, D.C., where affiliate members will advocate directly with federal lawmakers on student-centered admissions practices, increased education funding, transfer pathways, global student mobility, and protections against fraud and abuse.
If you would like to stay up to date on the latest government policies affecting education, especially higher education at both the local and national level, be sure to read SACAC’s Government Relations monthly newsletter.

Are. You. Ready. There is no better way to celebrate SACAC’s 60th Anniversary than in New Orleans - where history, music, food, and nightlife collide. “Opening Doors. Changing Lives” is this year’s theme, and while college admissions has changed over the past 60 years, what hasn’t is the fellowship and professional relationships formed through SACAC. Come ready to learn and connect, and to leave inspired.
Being that it is a special milestone for SACAC, an organization that has grown from a small group to one of the largest memberships in NACAC, be sure to get an early start by identifying conference sessions you may want to attend or by picking out that perfect outfit inspired by your favorite cocktail or mocktail for the Monday night social.
Looking to explore New Orleans, do not forget to check out the “Built to Host” website specifically for SACAC for sights to see, food to try, and things to do to make the most of your time in The Big Easy.
See you in New Orleans!
