Mississippi Drive-in Workshop & Advocacy Day

Join us for both the Mississippi Drive-in Workshop and Advocacy Day (or just attend one!) A complimentary breakfast and boxed lunch will be provided.

8:30 - 9:00 am - Check-in at Get2College

9:00 - 9:15 am - Welcome

9:15 am - 10:15 am - "Advocating for your Students' Financial Stability"

  • We all know education can be a big financial burden for students and families. In this session will cover the various ways the state of Mississippi helps students pursue affordable higher education. Representatives from the Mississippi Office of Student Financial Aid and the Woodward Hines Education Foundation will cover the basics of the MAAPP, MTAG, HELP, and other state resources for students.

10:20 - 11:15 am - "Promoting Student Mental Health"

  • How can you best set up your students for success? In this session you will hear from a professional in the mental healthcare field on how to best advocate for your students mental health. We will dive into how their mental health impacts their overall success, ways to best support them, and what resources are available to high school counselors.

11:30 am - 12:30 pm - "Learning to Advocate for Yourself"/Closing

  • Want to learn how to put yourself and the counseling profession in the best position to succeed in Mississippi and throughout the Southeast? This session will review the different leaders within the state Senate and House Education committees. We will also briefly discuss how membership in SACAC can help you advocate for yourself on a regional and national level.

12:45 - 1:00 pm - Depart for Capitol

1:30 - 4:30 pm - Advocacy Day at MS Capitol

Note that we will be acting as representatives of SACAC and as Mississippi educators, not as representatives of our respective institutions.

4:45 - 5:00 pm - Return to Get2College


Time

Drive-in Workshop check-in begins at 8:30 am. The Drive-in Workshop ends at 12:30 and will be followed by Advocacy Day at the Capitol.

The Drive-in Workshop will be held at Get2College, 2616 Lakeward Dr - Jackson MS 39216

Advocacy Day will be held at the Mississippi State Capitol Rotunda, 400 High Street - Jackson MS 39201. Public parking is available around the Capitol Building.
